As far as a country is concerned, we talk about the smallest, biggest, longest, shortest and most beautiful things and places in that country, This small description tells you about the highest or highly situated village in Sri Lanka. We know that almost all the highest things in Sri Lanka belong to Nuwara Eliya District. The highest mountain, highest city, highest railway station and highest plateau are some of them. The highest village Shanthipura is also located in Nuwara Eliya District exactly two kilometers away from the city of Nuwara Eliya.

When proceeding about 1 km along Kandy road, a junction with the Shanthipura name board can be seen on the left side. The road that runs uphill leads to this village called Shanthipura.

It is just a 10-minute ride from Nuwara Eliya and long buses are not allowed due to the gaps with acute curves on the road. This is a village situated at an elevation of nearly 7339 feet on the slope of Kikiliyamana Hill. There are nearly 250 houses. Most of them are cottage-type houses and we could hardly find permanent houses.

At the topmost position, there is a viewpoint from which you can view Nuwara Eliya city and hill Piduruthalagala. On a day, free from the mist, you are able to see up to Lake Gregory. As far as the villagers are considered, the majority of them are farmers, whose main cultivation is vegetables.

When you proceed uphill through the villages, we are able to see the house situated at the topmost position in Sri Lanka. In addition to the above experiences, anyone can enjoy the comfort of the cold climate and the beautiful views of the area all across the mountain in and around Nuwara Eliya. There are many hotels and restaurants that have come up in the area, that would solve your all the accommodation facilities. This beautiful village with plots of vegetables hidden among mist and fog will share with you an experience that would last in your mind forever.
